Letter from the Honourable Tom Mulcair, Leader of the Official Opposition
September 8, 2013
It is my pleasure to extend greetings to everyone gathered for the Merchant Navy Veterans Day of Remembrance ceremony.
I would like to specially recognize the sacrifices and bravery of the Canadian and Allied Merchant Navy veterans gathered here today. Without your sacrifice, the Battle of the Atlantic would likely have had a very different outcome. I am confident that Canadians who hear about your service take pride in the courage and sense of purpose you displayed. Doing one's part to benefit your country is at the heart of what it means to be a New Democrat and is a value shared by many Canadians.
As I acknowledge your valiant service I also pay respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as their families which experienced this great loss.
On behalf of Canada's New Democrats, I once again express deep appreciation for your service and sacrifice. This will inspire generations to come.
